Guaifenesin I was diagnosed in 1997. I began using Guai in 2000. At that time I found that I had to take a nap en route to drive 90 miles. I would get sleepy after 1/2 hour! Just this past May, I drove 500 miles in one day and only had to stop for gas, food and restroom breaks. I am a believer.

Guai isn't for everyone I've met many people that Guai worked for...but I'm not one of them. I've been strictly following Dr. St. Amand's protocol not using any salicylates, getting mapped and keeping a journal. My pain has not decreased at all and I've been on the protocol for 11 months. I'm still following it since I have many bottles left from being on auto-ship. I tend to try every therapy I find for Fibro. and for me, this was just another to add to my "not for me" list.

Guai Aid 600mg capsules Very Good results for IBS. Chronic IBS symptoms relieved. My constant joint pain, and achiness from Fibromyalgia is gone. I find it easy to avoid "sals" in products due to my allergies to most plants and foods- I had already omitted these from my cosmetics. My medical doctors had already prescribed this to thin the mucous occuring with allergies. I found the purity of the Guai Aid product a plus, I couldn't take the mucinex form due to GI side effects. Dave at Health Products Express has been very forthcoming in checking on ingredients due to my severe allergies. Dr. St. Amands book and website on this protocal was very helpful in outlining the steps, offering support, and answering questions. Almost 2 years on Guai Aid it costs me about $8. month when purchased in quantity.

Guaifenesin didn't work for me I was on the Guai therapy for one year. The constant pain levels of 9-10+ (10 being the worst) while on guai finally got to me and I quit taking the guai. I feel I endure enough pain on a daily basis without adding more pain!

guafiasen therapy for fibromyalgia I had been taking this drug for chronic chest pain not knowing why I hurt or felt congested much of the time. My lungs had been checked over and over and were always fine, but the pain still was there. Finally I saw on Remedyfind.com that there was another use for quafiasen (excuse spelling) .. for fibromyalgia and I was amazed. I have requested that my doctor keep me on it due to the pain in my chest and it does help. Also rubbing ointments with pine oil and eucalyptus helps the pains too, in my chest and joints. It is worth a try for fm sufferers.

Guaifenesin for Life! I started using guai 4 mos. when I was in so much pain that I couldn't sleep and was so fatigued that I just wanted to give up. I couldn't do anything but work part of the day and come home and try to sleep the rest. Just walking to the mailbox was almost impossible. My mother-in-law saw a segment on the news telling about it and I checked out the newstation's website for more info. It led me to www.fibromyalgiatreatment.com where I lurked for several mos. I joined the online support group and started reading everything I could get my hands on about guai including Dr. St. Amand and Claudia Marek's book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia." I figured what do I have to lose? I can't enjoy life this way. I followed the info to become salicylate-free; I was so exhausted that just driving to town wore me out but I finally found replacements for my h & b needs. I'm working full-time now, doing things with my family again. Yes, it's going to be a long road but at least I'm seeing improvement, not just treating the symptoms. My massage therapist is amazed at the difference in the feel of my muscles. She says they're not all boulders and rocks anymore. I feel better, am happier, and am making progress with this darn disease! I would recommend anyone with fibro to check out this website and the book. It's definitely worth your time!

with patience its great took me 7 months of really bad reverse cycling, but then I noticed I could cut up a tomato without making a mess something I hadn't managed in years - in the first year or two it was just little things that improved my skin itched less etc. After that I experienced massive improvements went from bed/wheelchair bound, on strong painkillers, unable to read or do anything to back to work, able to walk miles and I got married and had a baby in space of 5 years My personal advice is not to look for major improvements in the first year (some people do) - but to set a limit of at least 2 years on the drug before making your mind up to drop it. I made it 2 years because with the drug taking 2 months for to reverse every year I had the illness, I was 24 so that was probably going to take about 4 years to reverse completely for me 2 years was half way through. I've been off it for over 2 years trying to conceive and I am still not doing as bad as I was I am in pain and have fatigue, but I sleep and only need to take tylenol for the pain occasionally - its usually bearable. I can't wait to get back to the way I was before I came off it. Charley

It's helping! quaifenesin I'm a beginner with Dr. St. Amand's info and already the Mucinex is working. I'm sure when all the reading and action taken to remove salicylates is completed, the results will be even more remarkable. I can already tell some small lumps are disolving and I no longer have as much accumulation of plaque behind my lower front teeth that I had had for many years now and it was difficult to remove between dental visits.

Guai had no effect on me 2005 Update: I'm 43, have FM, chemical sensitivity & flurescent sensitivity similar to Susan Molloy, editor EHN. I'm not the only one who has not been helped by Guai. Once, at a support group, a guy told me he'd been on it a full year, with no effect whatsoever. My experience (3 years ago) is that I ordered 100 pills (600 mg. each) and started at 600 mg. per day, but after a few weeks, I was not feeling ANY cycling, despite going on a strict salicylate-free diet (which was a GIANT nuisance). So I tried upping the dosage gradually at that point to 1200 per day, & then 1800 per day. NO DICE. NADA. It seems to me that not all fibromyalgics are woven from the same cloth. YET, I've always been convinced (since puberty) that calcium IS the culprit. I've gathered many SEPARATE (birds-eye-view) clues, all of which point the finger at calcium. Note, though, that this year I finally had a 24-hour urine calcium test done, which yielded very LOW urine calcium (approx. 50) and this is PARADOXICAL to Dr. St. Amand's observations (http://www.mwilliamson.com/guai-md.htm) of "amorphous crystals" upon urinalysis. Furthermore Dr.St.Amand mentioned cystitis, and I had a cystoscopy done, which ruled that out. CLUES I'VE GATHERED RE: CALCIUM AS CULPRIT: (1) Since puberty, I've had ultra-dense, micro-calcified, fibrocystic breasts & creaky joints (i.e. snap-popping of calcium?? (2) Last year - diagnozed with [calcium] cyst in earlobe. The cysted earlobe heats up upon prolonged exposure to computer flurescense. The other does not. Guaifenesin I started guaifenesin about a year ago on my doctors advice. I have read about it, and it definitely does what it says it will as far as the "cycling" I can definitely tell when I forgot a dose, or if I try to raise my dose it knocks me on my but, so I know there has to be something to it. But sometimes the cycling gets really bad and i wimp out and quit taking it for a while. they say if you can stick with it, it will eventually get rid of most of your symptoms. I guess i am just not to that point yet.

My life is back on track I have been using the Guaifensesin Protocol since April last year (2002). However, since I can no longer get the long acting guai I changed to Guai-Aid. This was not suitable so I tried Guai-Life instead. Unfortunately, I have not found either of these tablets as effective as the LA tablets and will be in the process of purchasing Mucinex LA in the near future. Maybe it is better to pay the extra and get the results rather than languish in pain and fatigue unnecessarily! I have left the rest of my original post below for those who wish to read the info there? History I noticed an improvement in my health within a couple of months, once I had found the right dosage for me. I am strict about avoiding salicylates in topical and oral substances. I also adhere to a liberal HG diet which really suits me. I am also using coconut oil and ImmunoPro Whey protein which helps with the energy levels. I was free from pain most days and did go to the gym and have a good workout without suffering badly the next day. I used to get some 'off' days but they were fewer and less painful, exhausting and brainfogged! The downside of this treatment is that it is not a cure and I will need to take it for the rest of my life unless there is a cure found in the meantime. If anyone wants to start this treatment in the UK, it is best to get all the documentation from www.guaidoc.com and present it to your GP to keep them informed of what you are doing. I got my GP on my side and she has supported me all the way. She has seen the difference in my health since I began. Hope this helps. Elizabeth

Guaifenesin Therapy After I read Dr. St. Amand's book I tried his hypoglycemic diet for 3 weeks. I found I had more energy but, I still had pain. So the next week I eliminated all salicylates from the soap, make-up,shampoo,and lotion I was using by buying ones suggested on the Guai support website. I found I could do that and not miss any of the products I had used for years. Next, I bought guaifenesin (mucinex) and tried one pill (600 mg) in the AM and one pill in the PM for a week. I still had pain so I increased in to two pills in the AM and two pills in the PM. My pain increased and swelling accured just like Dr. St. Amand said. It lasted about two weeks and then I begain to feel better. I've been doing this for around three months and just recently stopped the mucinex because I was feeling better and I did not have the money one week. The pain returned, my sinises started feeling blocked and my nose was crusted over all the time. So I'm back to one pill in the AM and one in the PM. Next week I'll increase to two pills. For me, I think the diet helped with my energy problem and I will stay on that with only minimum cheating as long as it's working. The guaifenesin is doing something for the pain. My pain is not gone but without the fatigue I can do things I want and that improves my mood overall. The pain seems reduced but not gone. The trick is to remove all the salicylates that you use on your body before you start the guaifenesin. It is confusing and difficult to explain to others. But if you manage to do it the reward is- feeling much more like yourself- without so much pain.

guaifenesin works! After years of looking for help with chronic fatigue, I finally found something that works! It is a hassle to use salicylate free makeup and skin care for this to work, but well worth the effort. This isn't just another band-aid to cover up symptoms, it addresses the underlying problem with CFS. I have been doing this for almost 2 years and have a life again. Its worth trying!!!

Awful Guai reaction Starting Guai I had many hopes however after one week I started to experience so much pain that even the Methadone wasnt eliminating 90% of it. Prior Methadone along with Neurontin and Zanaflex at night gave me a good night sleep and during the day pain in the range of 4-5. My doctor "insisted" I keep it up because it had to first get rid of all of the toxins in my body. After the second week I couldn't even get out of bed. Going to the bathroom meant my husband had to help me rise from the bed because the pain was next to excruciating, sleep was next to impossible and I went from getting 7-9 hrs. to "if lucky" 1 hr. here or there. Third week my husband called doc and again he "insisted" to keep it up. Two days later my husband had to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital because there was no way he could get me in the car. I was admitted, taken off the Guai and it took 2 days to be released and an entire two weeks more before it was totally out of my system. Went back on my usual meds and GLADLY will accept the 4-5 range of pain compared to what this caused. To top it my doc wanted me to reach 1200 mg. at least 3-4 times a day - I feel I would have gladly blown my brains out if that dosage would have been taken - if what I took did what it did just what would 1200 mg. do? BEWARE -- not everyone has good results and afterwards speaking to several friends also with FMS/MPS and CFS they too had horrible experience and was smart enough to call it quits after almost 2 weeks on it - guess I listened to doc and shouldn't have - instead listen to my body.

Guai is IT!!! I actually am taking 400 mg of Humibid e immediate release by Cornerstone BioPharma, Inc. twice daily, but the list didn't include these items, so I couldn't choose them. 50 tablets cost around $13.00. The only reason I am taking 400 mg is because that is the strength of the tablets I found at my local supermarket pharmacy. I could have cut the tablets in half, then cut a half in half and taken three-quarters of a tablet to obtain 300 mg as recommended, but it was too much trouble. As long as 400 mg works for me and is tolerable, I shall continue as begun. It took me only one day to sort through my skin and hair products and get rid of any w/ salicylates. I had to replace my deodorant and shampoo, that's all. I already had some products that I could continue to use. I had to stop using my own lip balm formula, but am planning on making some w/ corn oil. I am now in my third day of the guai protocol, and am progressing nicely. I am hurting, but am confident that I can reverse this condition in time, and be free of all pain, stiffness, fatigue and mental fog associated w/ fibromyalgia. I would urge anyone interested in doing more than simply treating the pain to investigate the guaifenisin protocol as put forth by R. Paul St. Amand, M.D. Look for his two books on the subject and read, read and then read some more. Knowledge is your very best defense!

Guaifenesin Really Works I have been on this treatment for one year. Those tough knots from FM are starting to loosen up. I have had these for 20 years and have tried all kinds of pills, potions, alternatives, Physical therapy, etc. It requires a lot of patient education and involvement, but is worth the results. It is not a quick fix, and a little tricky to do. Make sure you ready Dr. St. Amand's book and consult the website to learn about Salicylates which can render the drug ineffective. I have been disabled 20 years and I expect to be fully recovered in about 5 years. Give it a try!

Guaifenesin I have had so much more energy and less pain since I started. I am getting rid of the phosphates that have caused me so much ill health. I am so grateful to know about this. It is slowly giving me my active life back. I may get tired and achey while I am clearing out phosphates but it is not as bad as my worst day before I tried it. Also, I have a lot of good days - much better than before I took it. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Just stay away from the salicylates - in your makeup and suplements - it will cancel out your guaifenesin. I am so grateful for this. It is a drug with no know side effects and it is not a heavy duty drug that just masks the problem. In fact, it does not mask the problem at all.

Guaifenesin update I have now been on Guifenesin for 5 years. I have had much improvement. I can do most anything now and do not consider my fibromyalgia something that prevents me from particpating in any activities. I am still cycling deep "stuff" and do have pain , but nothing like I had 5-10-15 and even 20 years ago. I feel more like I did in my 30's than in my 40's -50's. I am looking forward to my "old age" as , If everything continues to improve as it has in the last five years, I will be pain free and truly enjoying life. As I compare my health to that of my mother who also had fibromyalgia but doctors didn't know what was her problem as the disease didn't have a name at that time. She at 60 was in a great deal of pain, as I was. at 65, my current age, she was walking with a walker, had to have live in help to care for her and was in terrible pain. At 70 she died of the complications of the disease. She was totally miserable and no one knew what to do to relieve her buring pain. I Thank God for Dr. St Amand and guaifenesin. He has given me hope for a good life.

Guaifenesin protocol for fibromyalgia For the guaifenesin protocol to be effective, a person needs to eliminate all topical salicylates. With the aid of the website, http://www.guaidoc.com, you can find products that are salicylate-free. I have been on the protocol since 1999. I had chronic fatigue, respiratory distress, and a lot of muscle pain and headaches. I no longer suffer with chronic fatigue or respiratory distress. The muscle pain is greatly reduced. I take only over-the-counter naprosen or ibuprofen for pain. I need no sleep-aids or antidepressants. Staying with the protocol is worth it. It does take time, but it is great feeling fairly normal for someone of my age, after having been almost incapacitated from the symptoms of fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue.
